2.2.1 Q&A With Clint Tasker

Following hot on the heels of the 2.2.1 release notes and Tasker's patch preview is a question and answer session with the Relic designer.  We had a look through the forums at some of the discussion that arose from the posting of the patch notes yesterday and Clint responded to some of the common questions that have come up.

What’s up with the Nid changes?

Hormaguants were scaled up which most players see as strange considering they should be "throw away units.” The truth is Dawn of War 2 is a game of unit preservation; if you are throwing away units you are losing. This is why Hormaguants now level and it is why we have taken the direction we have with Synapse.

Synapse has always been intended to be a specific decision the player makes. The Tyranid player can use his Hormagaunts and smaller creatures as individual units or he can group them up around Synapse creatures for a large bonus. The main drawback to this is Synapse Feedback. We will keep evaluating the distance of the feedback but synapse will always remain a risk for the Tyranid player; that is an intended feature of the race.  ...more.
