iCCup Interviews Jeff Lydell
Following the conclusion of the first iCCup event for Dawn of War II, which featured AlwaysLame and Norni in the finals, Jeff Lydell answered a batch of questions on the game and possible future updates:
"Are there any plans to make custom maps downloadable through the game without having to make a separate mod per map?
jlydell: No and Yes, in that order. The problem we have with custom map sharing in game is our map size is relatively large (20MB+) and most users have a very limited upstream connection (typically 50kB/second.) To share a 1v1, the best case scenario is 6 minutes for the transfer, and for a 3v3 or FFA, we could easily be looking at 30-60 minutes. Because of this restriction, we aren’t going to pursue a solution in the near future until we can find a faster way to distribute content between users.
On the yes side, we are improving the custom map loading to only require content be dropped into the correct folder, no more modding required." - iCCup
